Remarkable parallels to Hittorf's phosphorus are exhibited by the P 11 ligand (unknown in the free form) of the trinuclear iron complex (see structure), which forms as a by‐product in the thermolysis of the title compound (Cp R = i Pr 5 C 5 ) in the presence of PhC≡CPh. However, the main product of the reaction is, as in the case of Cp R =C 5 H 2 t Bu 3 , the sandwich complex [Cp R Fe( η 5 ‐P 3 C 2 Ph 2 )] with a 1,2,3‐triphospholyl ligand.
