Honeycomb sheets are perfectly stacked in the niobium oxochloride [{Tl 5 (Ti 3 Cl 9 )}{(Nb 6 Cl 12 O 4 ) 3 (Ti 3 Cl 4 ) 2 }] (see picture), giving rise to tunnels in which [Tl 2 Cl 9 ] 3− and Tl + ions are located (not shown for clarity). The formation of this unusual layered framework seems to be favored by the configuration of the two basic cluster units and by templating effects.
