Reversible ethylene fixation in lanthanide chemistry is demonstrated by the Sm II derivatives [R 8 ‐calix‐pyrrole)(Et 2 O)Sm{Li(thf) 2 }{Li( μ 3 ‐OCH=CH 2 )}] (R=Et, {−(CH 2 ) 5 −} 0.5 ), which react with ethylene to afford the corresponding dinuclear complexes (see picture).
