An EZ 4 fragment without organic substituents, tetraphosphanylsilane Si(PH 2 ) 4 , has recently been synthesized by Driess et al. starting from Li[Al(PH 2 ) 4 ] and SiCl 4 . The significance of such compounds lies in that their existence allows conclusions to be drawn regarding the inherent stability of the core structure and the stabilizing influence of more or less space‐filling substituents. Furthermore they are of interest as precursors for new IV/V materials as well as representative objects for structural studies.
