Definitely an observable C 2 H 2 O species , the title compound 2 can be synthesized by thermolysis of the quadricyclane derivative 1 [Eq. (a)] as the primary product in the formation of ketene ( 3 ), as has been shown by high vacuum flash pyrolysis in combination with matrix isolation.
