Probably first generated as a reactive intermediate in the early 1970s, the C 2 ‐symmetric (CH) 9 + cation ( 1 ) has now been recognized to be the first representative of the aromatic Möbius [4 n ]annulenes predicted by Heilbronner in 1964.
