In the highly symmetrical environment of the P V center in the cation [P{P( o ‐C 6 H 4 O) 2 Ph} 2 ] + of 1 the two P V –P III bonds are relatively short (2.2023(10) Å) for compounds of this type. Compound 1 was obtained from the reaction of PCl 5 with two equivalents of [( o ‐OSiMe 3 )C 6 H 4 ] 2 PPh.
