Long overdue were syntheses of nickel( III ) complexes containing aliphatic thiolate ligands. The complex anion [Ni(phmi)] − (phmi is the tetraanion of N , N ′‐1,2‐phenylenebis(2‐methyl‐2‐sulfanylpropionamide) has now been isolated—as PPh 4 salt—and structurally characterized. The stability of the nickel( III ) complex is attributed to the special properties of the ligand, which abolish or at least retard possible decomposition pathways.
