Two anthracene ligands, each coordinated differently are contained in the first two structurally characterized bis(anthracene) complexes of a Group 4 metal. Crystal structure analyses of [Ti( η 6 ‐C 14 H 10 )( η 4 ‐C 14 H 10 )( η 2 ‐dmpe)] (dmpe=1,2 ‐ bis ( dimethylphosphino ) ethane) and [Ti( η 4 ‐C 14 H 10 )( η 2 ‐C 14 H 10 )( η 5 ‐C 5 Me 5 )] − (see picture) show that they have unusual and completely different structures in the solid state.
