A new versatile multidentate nonchelating ligand , 1,2‐bis[(2‐pyrimidinyl)sulfanylmethyl]benzene (bpsb), was designed and prepared for supramolecular syntheses. Anion‐controlled self‐assembly between silver salt and bpsb resulted in a single stranded helical polymer [Ag 4 (bpsb) 2 (NO 3 ) 4 ] n and a 2D lamellar network polymer [Ag 2 (bpsb) 3 (ClO 4 ) 2 ] n (shown here) containing crownlike cavities.
