The chiral {RuCl 2 (pybox‐ ip )} fragment can selectively capture the R enantiomer of racemic trans ‐cyclooctene 1 to give the corresponding complex 2 (see figure) and the free S enantiomer. The crystal structure of 2 is determined by X‐ray analysis.
