Excited‐state barriers are decisive for the regioselectivity of the [1,7]‐H‐shift reaction in cycloheptatrienes (see diagram). This follows from the detailed mechanism which was established theoretically and is in excellent agreement with recent femtosecond spectroscopy experiments.
