Nonfluorogenic processes such as the enzymatic hydrolysis of an alkyl galactoside or an alkyl butyrate can be followed directly by fluorescence when coupled to a product‐specific fluorescent antibody sensor. The antibody sensor responds in real time to the appearance of product in solution by emitting a fluorescent signal (see diagram). The assay is applicable for high‐throughput screening of catalysis in 96‐wells or 384‐wells microtiter plate format.
