A new radical approach to cyclic ethers 2 is offered by the intramolecular substitution (S H i) reaction at a silicon center. High diasteroselectivities can be obtained in this radical reaction. Less suitable are radicals such as 1 in which an Me 3 Si or an Me 3 Ge group replaces the Me 3 Sn group.
