NMR spectroscopy and molecular mechanics calculations have demonstrated that the conformational behavior of α ‐ C ‐mannobiose ( 1 ) is rather different from that of its natural analogue Man α (1→2)Man ( 2 ); this has implications for the possibility of biological use of C ‐disaccharides.
