Photoinduced intramolecular electron transfer in a trimetallic complex can be controlled by an external redox couple. The design of the trimetallic complex enables the selective oxidation and reduction of the intermediate site, so that the photoinduced electron transfer takes place over a specified distance upon excitation of the chromophore (shown schematically on the right).
