Thermal rate constants for intra‐ and interannular proton transfer in alkylated α , ω ‐diphenylalkanes on electrophilic attack (right) can be determined by use of the SiMe 3 group as a probe. Further evidence for the additional stabilization of the charged intermediates by the “spectator” ring is provided.
