A thermally populated S =3/2 spin state at room temperature is quite unusual for the coordination chemistry of six‐coordinate iron( III ) ions. For the complex cation [Fe(L‐N 4 Me 2 Me 2 )(S 2 C 6 H 4 )] + , the occurrence of a spin crossover between a low‐spin state and an intermediate‐spin state is established by structural, magnetic and spectroscopic evidence.
