A substantial enhancement in the nonlinear optical properties of three‐dimensional NLO chromophores in which three or four 4′‐dibutylaminoazobenzenyl moieties are connected through a central phosphonium ion (right) is observed relative to the corresponding one‐dimensional compound. This contrasts with the linear optical properties, which behave additively.
