Metal‐substituted analogues of planar methane are represented by the dicobalt complexes 2 , which are formed from the reaction of 1 (R = aryl) with [Co(C 5 H 5 ) (C 2 H 4 ) 2 ]. The unusual structure of 2 contains a planar‐tetracoordinate carbon (ptC) atom at the center of the complex‐stabilized diborylcarbene. Interactions with the four electropositive substituents result in increased σ and decreased π electron density at the ptC.
