This article describes a program of prenatal and early childhood home visitation that has been shown to be effective in improving the health of women and children in a series of randomized trials. The article summarizes the key elements of the program design and then presents a single case history to illustrate how the program elements are integrated in its clinical application. Particular attention is given to the interrelationships between the theoretical foundations of the program, its goals, program processes, and nurse/client activities. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
