There is no photometric standard observer for the mesopic region, but five systems of mesopic photometry have been proposed, each based on its own experimental data set. But more experimental data are required, especially for parts of the colour gamut. In order to make the best use of existing data and to optimize the value of new data, theoretical aspects need to be considered.
