This paper argues that strategic change needs to be focused on a set of prioritized output values in order to maximize business performance. This idea is tested empirically through original research of the UK automotive component manufacturing industry. The main areas of interest in this article are: Prioritizing strategic change on activities that really matter to business performance. Identifying and prioritizing the outputs of the business. Implementing congruent strategic plans. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
