Five major books which were all published in 1994 and 1995 are examined in detail for their value for corporate executives. The purpose of each book is examined, the characteristics of the approach taken, its usefulness for executives, the degree to which the author(s) appears to base the concepts on real world experience and the contribution to strategic management. A concept of strategic management developed by the author is used as a way of positioning the contribution of each book studied. An examination is then made of the new frontiers of strategic management, particularly identifying areas where new concepts are required. © 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
