Molecular device and quantum functional materials are appreciated as ultimate materials with their minimum size and creation of novel nature, respectively. In this paper, some examples approaching the ultimate material are described, with ultra‐high anisotropic conducting polymer material, conjugating polymer superlattice and one‐ and two‐dimensional porphyrin arrays connected with conjugating and/or insulating molecular wires, and porphyrin shackling DNA. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
