The methanol extract of the seed of Cassia fistula was tested for different pharmacological actions in mice. The methanol extract (ME) of the seed significantly potentiated the sedative actions of sodium pentobarbitone, diazepam, meprobamate and chlorpromazine and was also found to potentiate significantly the analgesia induced by morphine and pethidine in a dose dependent manner. A depressant action of ME was also evident from the behavioural studies on mice. Copyright © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
