The antiinflammatory effects of lycorine and haemanthidine which were isolated from Sternbergia clusiana (Ker‐Gawl.) Ker‐Gawl ex Sprengel growing in Turkey were evaluated in mice by the carrageenan‐induced oedema test. Antiinflammatory activities of lycorine and haemanthidine were higher than that of indomethacin. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
