The qualitative and quantitative determination of diterpenoids in the hexane and methanol extracts of eight species of the genus Sideritis (Labiatae) has been carried out for the first time using a reversed‐phase high‐performance liquid chromatography method. Knowledge of the diterpenoid content can be correlated with their pharmacological activity and their use can be validated in folk medicine as anti‐inflammatory agents. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
