The antidiabetic activity of Leucas lavandulaefolia Rees (Family ‐ Labiatae) extract on streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic rats has been investigated. A methanol extract of the herb at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg, and glybenclamide (1 mg/kg) were administered concurrently to STZ‐diabetic rats. The extract caused a significant reduction of blood glucose levels in streptozotocin‐induced diabetic rats by 29.8% ( p <0.001) compared with control groups. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
