Abstract The nature and effect of the changes in mean arterial pressure (MAP) of albino normotensive rats through i.v. injection of aqueous extracts of green bean, common rue and kelp were studied with emphasis on possible interactions among these extracts. All extracts were hypotensive, contained bioactive proteinaceous substances and stimulated urine flow. A combination of two or three plant extracts showed subtractive or additive effects, suggesting important bearing on their use therapeutically. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
