Abstract The crude aqueous extract of the microalga Dunaliella tertiolecta was found to have strong inhibitory effects on the aggregation of human platelets induced by thrombin, arachidonic acid and ionomycin. The extraction of the crude aqueous extract with i PrOH and posterior fractionation with solvents of increasing polarity, concentrated the activity in the more polar fractions. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
