An aqueous extract of Aegle marmelos leaves exhibited significant hypoglycaemic and antihyperglycaemic effects in normoglycaemic and streptozotocin‐diabetic rats, respectively. It also significantly ( p <0.05) increased the plasma insulin levels of diabetic rats. The extract did not show any signs of toxicity and the LD 50 was greater than 10.0 g/kg when given orally in rats.
