We study stationary and quasistationary solutions of the relativistic Vlasov–Maxwell system of plasma physics which have a special form introduced (in the classical setting) by Rudykh et al . [9, 10]. The actual construction of such solutions leads to semi‐linear elliptic equations. Under suitable assumptions on the ansatz functions, we are able to solve these equations by a sub‐ and supersolution approach. © 1998 B. G. Teubner Stuttgart—John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
