The global existence and uniqueness of classical solution of steady motions of a third‐grade fluid provided assumptions on positivness of μ (coefficient of viscosity) and α 1 , γ (material coefficients) is proved. © 1998 B. G. Teubner Stuttgart–John Wiley & Sons Ltd.
