The host 1,1‐bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)cyclohexane, H , forms 1:1 inclusion compounds with 2,3‐xylenol, Hċ23X , and with 3,5‐xylenol, Hċ35X . Competition experiments were conducted to determine the host selectivity toward three xylenol isomers, 2,3‐, 3,5‐ and 2,6‐xylenol. The structure of the solid formed between H and a mixture of 23X and 35X was elucidated. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
