The synthesis of [ 3 H]L‐738,167, an orally active fibrogen receptor antagonist, is described. A precursor containing the 2‐bromotolyl moiety was synthesized, and a reductive debromination reaction using tritium gas and Pearlman's catalyst gave the desired product with a final specific activity of 21 Ci/mmol. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
