An intuitive and user‐friendly notation based on a diagrammatical way to visualize and manipulate N ‐mode array equations is proposed. The diagrams have the appearance of graphs and make some manipulations of equations involving higher‐mode arrays easier. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
