Analysis is presented to evaluate the character of waveguide modes in anisotropic media. The model used is based on the assumption that the properties of the medium, which completely fills the waveguide considered, can be described by a permittivity‐ and a permeability‐tensor and by a vanishing conductivity. Based on this model the fields of waveguide modes in rectangular transmission lines are calculated. Several solutions of waveguide modes are discussed. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
