There is a need for information exchange and communication between management applications that are distributed over a large system. In this situation, a fundamental problem is how the management systems should cooperate in order to achieve overall management of a system. In order to address this problem, this article presents a functional model of cooperative system management. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
