Hot‐water consumption for shacks in the developing communities of Johannesburg was determined from measurements taken over a period of one year. Data are presented on the average consumption per person per day for the different months of the year. Also, hourly hot‐water consumptions per person per day as functions of summer weekdays, summer weekends, winter weekdays and winter weekends are given. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
