Three essential oil samples obtained by hydrodistillation from the leaves and flowers of Dichrocephala integrifolia (L.) O. Kuntze Chev. collected in different localities, were analysed by GC and GC–MS. The plant was poor in essential oil content (0.05%). The three oil samples from Yaoundé, Mbalmayo and Bafoussam, respectively, were found to be rich in hydrocarbons, particularly sesquiterpenes (63%, 71% and 63%), with germacrene‐D (30%, 37% and 35%) as the major component. The oil samples from the forest zones of Yaoundé and Mbalmayo were not markedly different from the sample from Bafoussam in the savannah zone. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
