A new daucane‐type sesquiterpene alcohol, trans ‐dauc‐8‐en‐4β‐ol, has been isolated and characterized from carrot seed oil ( Daucus carota L.). The structure and stereochemistry of this compound have been established by spectroscopic and chemical methods. Five known sesquiterpene compounds, trans ‐dauca‐8,11‐diene, dauca‐5,8‐diene, acora‐4,9‐diene, acora‐4,10‐diene, ( E )‐β‐10,11‐dihydro‐10, 11‐epoxyfarnesene and ( E )‐methylisoeugenol, were also identified as new reported constituents in carrot seed oil on the basis of their 13 C‐NMR spectral data.
