The essential oil of the flowers of Rosa brunonii (Rosaceae) was prepared by hydrodistillation and studied by capillary GC–FID and GC–MS; 35 constituents were identified, accounting for 78.4% of the total oil. The essential oil consisted mainly of eugenol (30%), citronellol (2.65%), geraniol (10.5%) and terpinen‐4‐ol (13.7%) as the major compounds. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
