The volatile constituents of the fruits of Astrocarium vulgare Mart. and Bactris gasipaes H.B.K. were analysed by capillary GC–MS. The volatile constituents of A. vulgare were dominated by esters, of which the most abundant was ethyl hexanoate (47.5%). The major component of B. gasipaes was limonene (52.9%). © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
