A correction to the free interface condition given in P. Szabo and O. Hassenger ( Int. J. Numer. Meth. Engng , 38 , 717–734 (1995)) is presented. The corrections to the computations in the paper are found to be within numerical accuracy. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
