Geophysical investigations have been conducted at el‐Wad Cave, Mount Carmel, Israel, in order to reconstruct the subsurface topography of the cave and to estimate the depth of the archaeological layers in its unexcavated parts. A ground penetrating radar survey confirms the existence of a series of karstic pits (first detected in 1991 using seismic refraction) in several chambers in the cave. The results, concerning both the arrangement of the pits and their depth and form, are in concordance with the previous seismic refraction study. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
