The reaction of dibutyltin oxide with Schiff bases derived from sulpha drugs in 1:1 molar ratio leads to the formation of a new series of organotin(IV) complexes. An attempt has been made to probe their structure on the basis of UV, IR, NMR ( 1 H, 13 C and 119 Sn) and Mössbauer spectral studies. A few representative compounds have also been screened for bactericidal activity and found to be quite active in this respect. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
