A series of metal‐containing vinylic monomers of the type L n M(COC 6 H 4 CH=CH 2 ) and L n M (COCH=CHC 6 H 5 ) [L n M = (η 5 ‐C 5 H 5 )Fe(CO) 2 , (η 5 ‐C 5 Me 5 )Fe(CO) 2 and (η 5 ‐C 5 H 5 )W(CO) 3 ] were prepared by the reaction of the appropriate metal anion with either 4‐vinylbenzoyl chloride or cinnamoyl chloride. (η 5 ‐C 5 H 5 )(CO) 2 FeCOCH=CH 2 was prepared by the reaction of Na[(η 5 ‐C 5 H 5 )Fe(CO) 2 ] and acryloyl chloride, whereas the compound (η 5 ‐C 5 H 5 )(CO) 2 Fe(C 6 H 4 CH=CH 2 ) was prepared via a transmetallation reaction using a palladium catalyst. All compounds were fully characterized using FTIR, 1 H and 13 C NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. Copyright © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
