This review describes phosphanes and phosphane derivatives as well as phosphenium salts in which increase in coordination number was achieved by intramolecular coordination of donor groups. This effect was established by X‐ray crystal structure analysis and was also inferred from 1 H‐NMR studies in solution. Where possible, comparison with the corresponding silicon compounds was made.
