Treatment of (1 S ,2 S )‐C 5 H 8 (PH 2 ) 2 ( 1 ) with OC(OCCl 3 ) 2 gave (1 S ,2 S )‐C 5 H 8 (PCl 2 ) 2 ( 2 ) as the first example of an optically active bis(phosphonous dichloride). 2 was converted to (1 S ,2 S )‐C 5 H 8 (PX 2 ) 2 [PX 2 = P(OMe) 2 ( 3 ), P(OPh) 2 ( 4 ), P[OCH‐(Me)Et‐( S )] 2 ( 5 ), P[2‐OC 10 H 6 C 10 H 6 O‐2′‐( R )] ( 6 ), P(NC 4 H 8 O‐ cyclo ) 2 ( 7 ), P(C 6 H 11 ‐ cyclo ) 2 ( 8 )] by reactions with oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon nucleophiles.
